First Grade

 

What will your child learn in music class this year?

 

Just like in your child’s homeroom class, we will spend a lot of time reading. We will begin to read simple rhythmic patterns using quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests. We will also learn about the music staff and begin reading melodic patterns on the staff. We can read music in first grade!

 

This year, we also get to explore and play on the Orff instruments. We'll take the rhythms and melodic patterns we know, and begin to play them on our instruments!
